Abstract

Due to the internationalization of development activities in industry the research of the collaboration of virtual teams in product development becomes more and more important. In this context research in product development focuses on field studies and laboratory studies which both are valuable, but also face some limitations, e.g. concerning transferability of results into (other) companies. To overcome this limitations, the concept of Live-Lab which can be seen as a research approach between field studies and laboratory studies can be used. This paper presents the concept and the implementation of the Live-Lab ProVIL – Product development in a Virtual Idea Laboratory which is dedicated to research the collaboration of virtual teams in product development.
